This upcoming weekend is youth gun season for deer.  Someone is considered youth for the youth season in Ohio if they are 17 years of age or younger.  I will be participating this year and I am extremely excited.  I am going to Southern Ohio with my uncle, cousin, and grandfather.  But before we leave Friday, I have to get a hydration test for wrestling.  That is where officials make sure a wrestler is hydrated and they are able to cut the pounds they need to in order to make weight.  Then I’ll leave there and head south with everyone.  I plan to use an old single-shot twelve gauge my grandfather had used when he was young.

Fall Break

Recently, I had a decently long break leading up to homecoming.  It was a long 4 day weekend that started on Thursday and ended on Sunday.  Homecoming was the Saturday.  Before I get into all of that, I am going to talk about the other days.  Wednesday night, my cousin spent the night at my house because he also had the long weekend.  Early Thursday morning, my brother, cousin, grandfather, and myself all went to Indian Lake to fish.  We were hoping to catch saugeye, which is a type of fish, but we did not get so lucky.  We walked away with great memories but no fish.  My grandfather did accidentally catch a turtle while I lost a large catfish because I was using a pole not suited for a fish that size.  I was using an ultralight with a 6-8 pound test line.  After that, we all came back and got some Lee’s Chicken for dinner and parted ways.

Saturday morning, instead of doing stuff for homecoming, I went out hunting.  I saw two does but I did not have a good shot so I did not take one.  The last thing I want is to wound a deer and not be able to find it.  I just enjoy being outside and being in my own head.  I then headed home only after stopping for some doughnuts on the way.  I got home and I was going to take a nap before I went out that night but my mom convinced me to do otherwise.  We went to the Apple Butter festival with a couple of her friends and their kids.  It was a fun time but it was freezing outside.  When I got home for the second time that day, I was finally able to get ready.  I got all dressed up and proceeded on my way to pick up my date.  We joined a group, got pictures, went out to dinner, then went to the school.  I had an amazing night with amazing people while being safe the whole time.

All in all, I took advantage of the extended weekend and made the best of it.  Anytime anyone has opportunities to go out and hang out with friends/ family or do something outside of their comfort zone, I recommend doing it because it could unexpectedly be one of the best memories that get made.
