“Rock” by Hillbilly Heaven under a CC BY-NC-ND 2.0

I made this rock in order to make people feel better when they feel bad.  I feel like someone who receives this present will strive to have more courage and hope; that is my goal at least.  I hope that this inspires people to do the same, and make rocks of their own.

This weekend is the first tournament of the wrestling season.  The team is going to our sister school to have a lot of dual meets against other teams.  Dual meets are where one team faces another man-to-man.  I have high expectations for my team, and I believe they will exceed them.  But most importantly we will become closer together as a family.

Youth Gun Season

This upcoming weekend is youth gun season for deer.  Someone is considered youth for the youth season in Ohio if they are 17 years of age or younger.  I will be participating this year and I am extremely excited.  I am going to Southern Ohio with my uncle, cousin, and grandfather.  But before we leave Friday, I have to get a hydration test for wrestling.  That is where officials make sure a wrestler is hydrated and they are able to cut the pounds they need to in order to make weight.  Then I’ll leave there and head south with everyone.  I plan to use an old single-shot twelve gauge my grandfather had used when he was young.

Halloween

Pumpkin Carving Day by Damian Cugley shared under a CC BY-SA 2.0 license.

I had the best Halloween this year.  Everything I did was amazing and was could not be topped.  I hung out with an amazing girl; we watched scary movies and carved pumpkins.  I had to of spent 6 hours with her all day.  After that, she got out of my hair and I got to spend the rest of the night with my friends because everyone knows that “Saturdays are for the boys!”  My friends and I met at a sweet party and had tons of fun.  Then, we came to my house and chilled while playing old-school Call of Duty for the rest of the night.  This was, without a doubt, the best Halloween I’ve had.

Actually, I just stayed inside by myself after talking to my grandparents for half an hour that day while everyone else had fun.

Fall Break

Recently, I had a decently long break leading up to homecoming.  It was a long 4 day weekend that started on Thursday and ended on Sunday.  Homecoming was the Saturday.  Before I get into all of that, I am going to talk about the other days.  Wednesday night, my cousin spent the night at my house because he also had the long weekend.  Early Thursday morning, my brother, cousin, grandfather, and myself all went to Indian Lake to fish.  We were hoping to catch saugeye, which is a type of fish, but we did not get so lucky.  We walked away with great memories but no fish.  My grandfather did accidentally catch a turtle while I lost a large catfish because I was using a pole not suited for a fish that size.  I was using an ultralight with a 6-8 pound test line.  After that, we all came back and got some Lee’s Chicken for dinner and parted ways.

Saturday morning, instead of doing stuff for homecoming, I went out hunting.  I saw two does but I did not have a good shot so I did not take one.  The last thing I want is to wound a deer and not be able to find it.  I just enjoy being outside and being in my own head.  I then headed home only after stopping for some doughnuts on the way.  I got home and I was going to take a nap before I went out that night but my mom convinced me to do otherwise.  We went to the Apple Butter festival with a couple of her friends and their kids.  It was a fun time but it was freezing outside.  When I got home for the second time that day, I was finally able to get ready.  I got all dressed up and proceeded on my way to pick up my date.  We joined a group, got pictures, went out to dinner, then went to the school.  I had an amazing night with amazing people while being safe the whole time.

All in all, I took advantage of the extended weekend and made the best of it.  Anytime anyone has opportunities to go out and hang out with friends/ family or do something outside of their comfort zone, I recommend doing it because it could unexpectedly be one of the best memories that get made.

Bow Hunting

Saturday the 29th was opening day for bow season.  When I refer to bow hunting, I am referring to hunting whitetail deer.  I only hunt with a compound bow whereas other people may use longbows and crossbows during bow season.  During gun season though, I will use a twelve gauge.  I think longbows are really neat but they are too primitive for me.  At the same time, I feel crossbows are too easy.  I have to pull my compound bow back everytime and the draw poundage is 60.  This is important because I am pulling 60 pounds back every time I decide I want to take a shot.  Over time, this starts to take effect on how well you shoot.  Your muscles start to hurt and the bow will not shoot as straight.  Crossbows are way different because they only need to be pulled back once for a whole day of hunting and there is a lot more draw poundage.  People will and are able to shoot farther and more accurately because of this increase in poundage.  I see crossbows as a gun that shoots an arrow. That just is not fair for everyone else, in my opinion.

My point is, it is unfair for people to use a crossbow for bow hunting.  Bow hunting for whitetail deer has a much longer season than gun season, therefore people should use a more complicated tool to harvest deer with the extended bow season.

Backyard Shinanigans

Protecting whom? by Todd Huffman is shared under a CC-BY 2.0.

I have friends, believe it or not, and we do stupid things that sound fun at the time.  Yesterday, my friend and I had gone to the weight room after school and got a lift in. I did a little bit of everything and my buddy only did triceps.  We got done with that and headed over to my house but only after he grabbed his boxing gloves out of the wrestling room which is attached to the weight room.  I already have some of my own because it is a great way to get into shape.  I grabbed my gloves and he grabbed his and we went to the backyard.  We strapped them up and went at it.  He popped me a couple good times and I popped him a couple good times, but after a few, we were both exhausted and in need of something to drink.

Now, I know you’re probably wondering why on earth we were fighting.  Well, there was no reason.  We have been friends for a long time and it was just a competition to see which one of us was the best.  The outcome was a tie and we both walked away unharmed and friends.

The point of the story is to love your friends and make memorable moments with them.  Stay young while you can because it won’t last forever.

Why I’m Writing This Blog

I am writing this blog because I have many stories about goofy things I do with friends, I have experiences with hunting and fishing, and I know what I am talking about when it comes to fixing things and setting up fishing lines along with some how-to.  I also love old-school rap that mostly comes from the 90s.  And yes, I know it is weird for someone who is country to love hip hop so much.
